Why This Programme
Designed entirely around competitive surfing development. Heat strategy, scoring awareness, and mental performance coaching are core pillars — not add-ons.
Strict cap of 8 athletes per cohort ensures every surfer receives daily personal attention, individual video analysis, and a tailored development plan.
Delivered by RSJ head coaches with national and international competitive backgrounds. SurfingGB accredited, safeguarding certified, full DBS checks.
Places are not sold — they are earned. Every applicant is assessed on footage and experience. This keeps the cohort at a consistent high-performance standard.
Two ocean surf sessions per day (minimum), biomechanical video analysis, strength & conditioning, and heat simulation — plus an optional add-on day at The Wave Bristol.
The camp fee is split across 4 equal payments after approval, making the investment manageable. Members receive a £100 discount on the total price.
The Framework
Every session, every activity, every piece of feedback is structured around five performance pillars that define what it takes to compete at the highest level.
01
Foot placement, pop-up, bottom turn, cutback, and aerial foundations. Biomechanical video review every session.
02
Priority rules, wave selection, interference avoidance, and tactical decision-making under competition pressure.
03
Ocean-specific strength, paddle endurance, rotational power, and surf fitness circuits tailored to each athlete.
04
Pre-heat routines, pressure management, visualisation, and resilience. Delivered by our performance coach.
05
Competition calendar, regional/national squads, qualification routes, and a personalised development roadmap to take home.

Your Coach
Your child will be coached by someone who has lived competitive surfing at its highest level. 36 years of ocean time, WQS-level competition experience, and the highest coaching qualifications available in British surfing — held by a single coach.
No assistant coaches delivering diluted sessions. No generic surf instructor running a camp with a performance label on it. The RSJ HP Programme is led, designed, and delivered by Reubin — from first session to final individual debrief.

What Sets This Apart
This is not a surf camp with a coaching label on it. Each of the six pillars below is a deliberate, structured system — every one verifiable, every one unique to RSJ.
01
Ocean surfing, trampoline, surf skate, and pool swimming in a single week — with an optional add-on day at The Wave Bristol for guaranteed repetition. Each environment targets a specific performance domain — wave reading in the ocean, aerial awareness on trampolines, flow on the skate park, paddle efficiency in the pool.
02
Every surf session is filmed and reviewed. Analysis focuses on quantifiable biomechanics — centre of gravity, joint angles, weight distribution, pop-up timing, and compression-extension cycles. Athletes see exactly what their body is doing with precise, research-grounded corrections.
03
Every participant is fitted with a fitness tracker from Day 1. Heart rate, activity levels, and session intensity are recorded daily and uploaded to the RSJ Member Portal, building a longitudinal performance profile that enables data-driven coaching.
04
Structured around the Long-Term Athlete Development framework, differentiating "Learning to Train" (ages ~10–12) and "Training to Train" (ages ~13–16). Coaching intensity and conditioning are calibrated to biological maturation, not just chronological age.
05
A WCT Judge delivers a Q&A and administers a judging criteria test. An FCS/board shaper explains fin science and board design. These aren't passive lectures — they're interactive sessions with real industry professionals.
06
All performance data, video clips, fitness metrics, and test results feed into the RSJ Member Portal. Athletes and parents access a living record of development, creating accountability, motivation, and a clear pathway narrative.

For Parents
This isn't a holiday with surfing in it. Every pound of this investment is directly traceable to a measurable outcome. Here is exactly what your child comes home with — documented, verifiable, and permanent.
01
With a strict cap of 8 athletes, your child is never anonymous. By Day 2 the coach knows their surfing style, their strengths, their hesitations, and their specific technique barriers. Every piece of feedback is personal — not recycled from a group session.
02
Every athlete receives daily biomechanical video analysis with frame-level corrections. You'll see before-and-after footage in the member portal. Technical improvement is tracked and written up in the individual performance report — handed over on Day 5.
03
Your child leaves with a personalised pathway plan — which competitions to enter, which regional squads to target, what to work on at home, and what the next realistic step looks like. A concrete direction, not vague encouragement.
04
A personal fitness tracker to take home. A biomechanics-annotated video library in their RSJ member portal. A performance report signed by the head coach. The same tools used at elite level — now built into your child's training routine.
05
The application process guarantees your child is surrounded by serious, committed young athletes at a similar competitive level. That environment alone — 8 motivated peers on the same mission — accelerates development in ways coaching alone cannot replicate.
06
Parents can observe from designated areas at all ocean sessions. A daily debrief summary is available at collection time. The RSJ member portal shows session notes, fitness data, and coach observations updated throughout the week.
All RSJ coaches hold current DBS enhanced certificates and active safeguarding qualifications. Medical forms and parental consent documentation are completed and reviewed before Day 1. All sessions operate within SurfingGB safeguarding guidelines. This is a land-based coaching programme, capped at a maximum of 8 athletes for the entire programme.
Elite Member Technology
Every ocean session is tracked. Every piece of video is annotated by the coach. Every fitness metric is captured. The RSJ technology platform — Watch App, Mobile App, and Kaizen Lab — runs at full force throughout the HP Programme, giving your child a level of data-driven coaching that doesn't exist anywhere else in British youth surfing.
And when the programme ends on Day 5 — the improvement doesn't. Every metric, every video clip, every coach note keeps flowing through your child's RSJ membership. The system stays live. The data keeps building. Kaizen — continuous improvement — doesn't stop because camp is over.
RSJ Watch App
Live Session Tracking
During the Programme
After the Programme
Continues tracking every surf session your child does at home, building a longitudinal performance profile they carry into every future competition.
RSJ Mobile App
Your Coaching Hub
During the Programme
After the Programme
The app becomes a permanent coaching companion — training plans, surf fitness programmes, coach-delivered content, and competition prep resources, all in your child's pocket.
Kaizen Lab
Coach Video Analysis

After the Programme
Every annotated video clip from the programme stays permanently in the Kaizen Lab portal. Future coaches, squad selectors, and parents can review the complete performance record anytime.
The Kaizen Principle
Kaizen — 改善 — means continuous improvement. It is the founding philosophy of everything RSJ does. The HP Programme plants the seed. The membership and tech platform is the environment that makes it grow. Every session your child does after the programme — tracked by the Watch, analysed in the Lab, coached through the App — adds another layer to their performance record.
Day 5
Programme completes. Performance report delivered. Pathway set.
Week 1–4
Home training plan active in the app. Watch tracking every session.
Month 2+

Take-Home Pack
Every athlete leaves the programme with a comprehensive set of physical items, a permanent digital record, and — most importantly — a measurable shift in how they surf and compete. This is not a participation pack. It is evidence of a week's worth of elite-level work, and a toolkit for everything that comes next.
Parents often tell us the take-home pack is what makes the investment feel real. Not because of the physical items — but because their child can point to every piece of it and say exactly what they did to earn it.
Physical Items
A wearable fitness tracker — theirs to keep. Used throughout the programme to capture heart rate, session intensity, and activity data, it goes home with them so the monitoring never stops. Every surf session, every training run, every conditioning circuit from that point forward feeds into a growing personal dataset.
A full-size RSJ High Performance Programme completion certificate — individually named, achievement-level noted, and signed by the head coach. Suitable for framing. Recognised by coaches, clubs, and squad selectors as evidence of serious competitive development.
Every cohort, the coaching team awards five personal titles decided entirely on merit: Most Improved Surfer, Best Manoeuvre of the Week, Hardest Worker, Top Theory Score, and Competition Heat Winner. These aren't participation trophies — they are coach assessments based on five days of observation.
A full printed booklet containing their personalised surf theory notes, the S&C programme used during the week, exercise descriptions and progressions, heat strategy frameworks, and mental performance tools. A reference guide they can return to at any point in their training year.
RSJ High Performance Programme branded kit — athlete ID lanyard, programme stickers, and cohort-specific items. Small in size, but significant in what they represent: a place earned through application and selection, not just paid for.
A printed pathway plan built specifically for your child — which competitions to enter over the next 12 months, what level to target, which regional or national squads are relevant to their age and ability, and what to prioritise in training between now and their next event.
Digital Pack — Via the RSJ Member Portal
A coached and edited highlight clip of your child's best moments from the week — assembled by the coaching team from all session footage. Shareable with clubs, squads, and selectors.
Every annotated session clip from all five days — frame-by-frame analysis, coach voiceover notes, and comparison cuts. Permanently stored in their Kaizen Lab portal for future reference and coaching use.
A structured written plan from the head coach covering exactly what to work on over the next three to six months — technique priorities, conditioning targets, and competition preparation milestones.
Five days of fitness tracker data — heart rate zones, session intensity, effort trends — exported as a full performance report and stored permanently in their RSJ member portal profile.
Elite surf coaching at this level — a maximum 8-athlete programme with daily video analysis, wearable tracking, wave pool day, and one-to-one pathway planning — simply does not exist elsewhere in the UK at this price point. Private coaching sessions with a coach of this qualification and competition background cost upwards of £125 per hour. The HP Programme delivers the equivalent of several months of that coaching, compressed into five focused days, with tools and documentation that extend its value for years.
