Life Out There Photography
Life Out There is James — a professional photographer with over ten years behind the lens, working between Cornwall and Somerset. His craft spans surf, lifestyle and weddings, and it's built on one idea: the best images happen when nobody is performing for the camera.
The story starts in 2009, when his dad bought a 1979 VW campervan and set off a love of chasing undiscovered corners of the UK coastline. That road-trip spirit still runs through his work — a style shaped by 60s and 70s aesthetics, vintage culture and salt-air nostalgia.
His approach is candid and natural — he blends into the session rather than directing it, catching the subtle moments: the pre-wave focus, the wipeout laugh, the fist-pump on the paddle back out. That's exactly why we partnered with him. RSJ sessions are about real progression, and James captures it as it actually happens.

James shoots your whole session — waves, technique, and the in-between moments. Ideal for seeing your progression frame by frame (and finally having proof of that one wave).

Full video capture of your session at the same rates. Watch your surfing back at real speed, share it, or bring it into Kaizen Surf Lab for analysis with your coach.

After your session: you'll get access to a private online gallery with your high-resolution images — and your footage, if video was captured. Yours to keep, download and share.

Alongside the stills, James films full sessions — real-speed footage of your waves from take-off to kick-out, shot from the beach with a long lens so nothing about your session changes. You surf; he captures.
Expect clean, stabilised clips of every ridden wave, the paddle battles and the moments in between, delivered in the same private gallery as your photos. It's footage you can share, keep — or bring straight into Kaizen Surf Lab for frame-by-frame analysis with your coach, so the film of your best wave also becomes the blueprint for your next one.

LoTP confirms
We let James know straight away and check he's free for your slot. Your session includes capture once he confirms — we email you either way.

Your private gallery
After the session, LoTP bills you directly and delivers a private online gallery with your high-resolution images and footage.
Photos and video are captured by Life Out There Photography, not RSJ Surf Academy, and billed separately by LoTP. Availability is confirmed per session.
