To create an account, you must be aged 18 or over. By creating an account, you warrant that the information you provide is accurate, complete, and up to date. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity under your account.

Young people under the age of 18 cannot hold an RSJ account in their own name. All accounts for participants under 18 must be created and managed by a parent or legal guardian, who becomes the account holder ("Parent Account Holder").

The Parent Account Holder is fully responsible for: (a) all bookings, payments, and communications made through the account; (b) ensuring the accuracy of all information provided about their child; (c) completing all required consent forms and waivers on their child's behalf; (d) ensuring their child is aware of and complies with our Code of Conduct; and (e) supervising their child's use of the RSJ member portal and associated technology (where applicable).

Young people under the age of 13 must have all account activity managed entirely by the Parent Account Holder. Young people aged 13–17 may use the portal under parental supervision, but the parent remains the legally responsible account holder.

You must ensure that all personal and medical information provided to RSJ is accurate and kept up to date. Providing false information, particularly regarding medical conditions, swimming ability, or age, may affect our ability to provide safe coaching and may constitute a breach of these Terms.

Session bookings are made through the RSJ website or member portal. A booking is confirmed only when you receive a written confirmation from us (email or portal notification). We reserve the right to decline or cancel any booking at our discretion, in which case any payment taken will be refunded in full.

All participants must complete a valid Activity Waiver before their first session. For participants under 18, a Youth Parental Consent and Activity Waiver must be completed by the Parent Account Holder before the young person's first session. No coaching will be delivered until required waivers are on file.

Participants must be able to swim at least 50 metres unassisted and must disclose any medical conditions that may be relevant to participation. You must inform us of any changes to a participant's medical status before a session where those changes may be relevant to safety.

Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled session time. Late arrivals may result in a shortened session without entitlement to a refund or rescheduling for the time missed.

Surfing is an outdoor, ocean-based activity and is subject to weather, swell, and environmental conditions. RSJ reserves the right to modify, relocate, or cancel sessions where conditions are unsafe or unsuitable, in the sole judgment of our coaching team. In such cases, we will offer a rescheduled session or a credit toward a future booking. Refunds for weather-related cancellations are at our discretion and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

A booking reserves a coach and a session slot that we can no longer offer to anyone else. RSJ therefore operates a credit-and-reschedule policy. Cancelling a booking earns RSJ Account Credit or a reschedule — it does not entitle you to a cash refund, except in the limited circumstances set out below. Our full policy is published at rsjsurfacademy.com/cancellation-policy and you confirm acceptance of it at checkout.

Where you cancel a session, the outcome depends on the notice given before the scheduled start time: 14 or more days — 100% RSJ Account Credit or a free reschedule; 3 to 14 days — 50% RSJ Account Credit or a free reschedule; less than 3 days, or non-attendance without notice (no-show) — the booking is forfeited with no refund, credit or free reschedule. RSJ Account Credit is valid for 12 months and may be applied to any future RSJ booking at checkout.

Cash refunds are not provided on a self-service basis. They are made only where: (a) RSJ cancels the session; (b) you provide reasonable evidence of a medical emergency or bereavement (at our discretion); or (c) there has been a genuine payment or duplicate-charge error. All cash refunds are reviewed and approved by RSJ and, other than for payment errors, are subject to a payment-handling fee of £5 plus 3% of the refunded amount, which covers the card-processing fee retained by our payment provider on refunds and administrative costs. To request a refund under these circumstances, use the "Request a refund" option on your booking in the member portal.

If RSJ cancels a session — including for weather, safety reasons, or coach unavailability — you will be offered either a rescheduled session at no additional cost, full RSJ Account Credit, or a cash refund (which, as above, is subject to the payment-handling fee), at your choice.

RSJ members may reschedule an eligible booking to another available date and time from the member portal, free of charge with 3 or more days notice. Rescheduling releases your original slot back to the booking calendar. One reschedule is permitted per booking.

Cancellation terms for structured programmes (including the 8-Week Improvement Programme and the Youth HP Programme), camps, and experiences are set out separately at the point of booking and may differ from single-session terms. Programme and camp deposits are non-refundable. Please refer to your booking confirmation for programme-specific cancellation terms.

Surf sessions are leisure activities provided on a specific date and, under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, are exempt from the 14-day cancellation (cooling-off) right. Nothing in this policy affects your statutory rights where a service is not provided as described.

Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or any other applicable UK consumer protection legislation.

RSJ offers several membership tiers (Foundation, Breakthrough, Performance, and Elite) with different features and pricing. Full details of each tier are available on our Membership page. Youth membership tiers are available for participants aged 6–16 and must be managed by a Parent Account Holder.

Paid memberships are billed on either a monthly or annual basis as selected at sign-up. Payment is processed securely by Stripe. By providing payment details, you authorise RSJ to charge you on the selected billing cycle until the membership is cancelled. Annual memberships are charged as a single upfront payment.

Upgrades to a higher membership tier take effect immediately. You will be charged a pro-rata amount for the remainder of the current billing cycle based on the difference in tier price.

Membership downgrades and cancellations take effect at the end of the current billing period. You will retain access to your current tier until that date. After cancellation, you revert to the Foundation (free) tier and retain access to your booking history and progression data.

Session discounts and other membership benefits apply only while a paid membership is active. Discounts are applied automatically to eligible bookings made while your membership is current and cannot be applied retrospectively.

The RSJ High Performance Youth Surfing Programme is application-gated. Submission of an application does not guarantee a place. RSJ reserves the right to decline any application at our discretion, without obligation to provide reasons. Where an application is declined, any deposit paid will be refunded in full.

Programme fees are split into four equal instalments, payable after a place is offered and accepted. The first instalment (deposit) must be paid within 48 hours of an offer being made to secure the place. Failure to pay within this window may result in the offer being withdrawn.

Withdrawal from the programme after a place is accepted and the deposit paid: (a) more than 60 days before the programme start date — deposit retained, remaining instalments cancelled; (b) 30–60 days before — deposit and first instalment retained; (c) less than 30 days before — all paid instalments retained. RSJ will always consider exceptional circumstances (e.g. medical grounds with evidence) on a case-by-case basis.

Parent/guardian consent, a completed Youth Parental Consent Waiver, and a valid medical disclosure form are all mandatory preconditions of participation in the HP Programme. Failure to provide these before Day 1 will result in the young person being unable to participate, with no entitlement to refund.

Access to the RSJ member portal, mobile app, watch app integration, and Kaizen Lab video analysis suite is provided as part of paid membership tiers (Performance and Elite) and as part of the HP Programme. These tools are provided for personal coaching and performance development purposes only.

We aim to keep the portal and associated technology available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. We may need to take systems offline for maintenance, updates, or repairs. We will endeavour to provide advance notice of planned downtime and will not schedule maintenance during known peak usage periods.

Performance data, video footage, coaching notes, and other content stored in the RSJ member portal are yours. We do not claim ownership of your personal data or coaching content. We retain this data in accordance with our Privacy Policy. You may request an export of your data at any time.

To protect your account, we record and monitor account activity in the portal — including when you log in and out, how long your sessions last, the sections and features you use, and the device and network you connect from. For your security, member sessions are automatically signed out after a period of inactivity. We use this information to keep your account secure, detect misuse, and improve the portal, as described in our Privacy Policy.

The RSJ Apple Watch App and Mobile App collect health and biometric data — including heart rate, GPS session tracking, speed, calorie estimates, and wave count — during surf sessions. Heart rate and calorie data derived from biometric measurement constitutes special category health data under UK GDPR Article 9(1) and the Data Protection Act 2018. We may only process this data under a specific legal basis in addition to a standard lawful basis.

We collect health data from the Watch App and Mobile App only with your explicit consent (Article 9(2)(a) UK GDPR). You provide this consent either during app setup or via the Waivers section of your member portal. For Youth Elite and Youth HP Programme members under 18, explicit parental or guardian consent is required before any health data may be collected. App features that rely on health data will not be active until this consent is recorded.

Health and biometric data collected by RSJ apps is used solely to analyse surf session performance, track athletic progression, and inform coaching recommendations. It is never:

• —Sold to any third party
• —Shared with commercial partners or advertisers
• —Used to make automated decisions that produce significant effects
• —Processed for any purpose other than the direct coaching relationship
• —Used to build a commercial profile of the member

Health data from participants under 18 receives the strictest protections under the ICO Children's Code (Age Appropriate Design Code). It is visible only to the parent/guardian account holder and named RSJ coaches. Parental consent for health data collection may be withdrawn at any time through the portal, which will immediately disable data collection and trigger deletion of previously collected health data within 30 days.

You may withdraw consent for health data collection at any time via the Waivers section of your member portal or by contacting us at surf@rsjsurfacademy.com. Withdrawal does not affect access to other services. Previously collected health data will be deleted within 30 days of withdrawal unless retention is required by law.

Surfing is an outdoor, ocean-based sport that carries inherent risks including but not limited to: drowning, collision with surfboards or other surfers, injury from waves, rocks, or the seabed, cuts and abrasions, musculoskeletal injuries, and exposure to environmental hazards. By participating, you acknowledge these inherent risks.

Subject to the paragraph above, RSJ's total liability to you in connection with our Services (whether in contract, tort, breach of statutory duty, or otherwise) will not exceed the total amount you have paid to RSJ in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.

RSJ is not liable for any indirect, consequential, special, or incidental loss, including loss of data, loss of revenue, or loss of opportunity, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such loss.

RSJ is not responsible for the loss of, theft of, or damage to personal equipment or belongings brought to any RSJ session, camp, or event.
